1. Discuss which of the multiple intelligences you have strengths in and then discuss some of the core characteristics of that (or those) intelligences. Discuss which of the core characteristics best describe you and your learning style.
The multiple intelligences that I have strengths in are Kinesthetic and Naturalistic. Core characteristics of Kinesthetic are learning information through bodily sensations, expresses feelings and emotions through body movements, responds quickly and intuitively to physical stimulus, and demonstrates balance, dexterity, poise, agility, and flexibility. Core characteristics of Naturalist are ranking items by significance and relationship, identifying categories by attributes, and finding common traits among items. The core characteristics that best describe me and my learning style would be by learning information through bodily sensations and finding common traits among items. I learn best by doing, and I often find myself comparing and contrasting certain items according to their traits.
2. Discuss what students with this type of intelligence enjoy, are like, or tend to do within classroom settings.
Students with Kinesthetic intelligence enjoy interacting with their environment and enjoy with hands-on activities. They are able to work on a hands-on task for an extended period of time and enjoy group games and active learning tasks.
3. Discuss how you will support this type of intelligence within your classroom and within your teaching.
I cam support this type of intelligence by creating multiple hands-on learning experiences, incorporating creative drama in my instructions, and making sure I include interactive games in order to review and instill content. These types of learners learn best when there is movement to rhythm and music involved. Also, having hands-on science experiments will benefit these learners. For math units, using manipulative will help these learners as well.
4. Discuss what technologies stimulate this type of intelligence.
Technologies that stimulate this type of intelligence are construction tools, kitchen utensils,
screws, levers, manipulative materials, a mouse, and a joystick.
5. And finally, discuss how you might impact student learning by applying your understanding of learning styles and multiple intelligences within your classroom.
By applying my understanding of learning styles and multiple intelligences within my classroom, I could impact my student's learning immensely. By understanding how each learning style works and what they benefit from, I can make sure to incorporate those techniques in my classroom. I could narrow down the different learning styles in my classroom by having my class take some sort of Multiple Intelligence assessment. From there I could decided the highest majority of MI in my classroom and choose which technologies will benefit my classroom.
